Lessons in Unreasonable Hospitality

The Entrepreneur’s Book Club

Similar to most days in my life, I woke up with an idea. I’m always thinking about ways to bring people together for the betterment of something — personally, professionally, and everything in between. So this endeavor is no different.

There are so many incredible books out there designed to help entrepreneurs grow and scale their businesses. It made me wonder: what would it look like to bring women entrepreneurs together around books? But then I thought…let’s take it a step further. What would it look like for us to not only read the books, but also hold each other accountable for actually implementing the concepts and ideas into our businesses?

And just like that, the Entrepreneur’s Book Club was born.

This is more than a book club. It’s a space for ambitious women to learn, grow, exchange ideas, and challenge each other to move from inspiration to execution. So come on this journey with us — welcome to the Entrepreneur’s Book Club!

Through this blog, we’ll highlight standout books, share key takeaways, and explore practical ways these lessons can help strengthen and grow your business.

Our very first read was Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara. We’ve all heard the saying: people may not always remember what you said, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel. Well, this book takes that idea to an entirely different level.

Guidara shares how a radical commitment to customer experience helped transform his businesses and create a winning model centered around going above and beyond for people.

Key Takeaways

Culture & Mindset Shift

One of the biggest themes throughout Unreasonable Hospitality is that exceptional businesses are built by people willing to think beyond what’s expected. The book challenges us to ask bigger questions about the kind of impact we want our businesses to have — not just financially, but experientially.

Are we creating businesses that simply provide a service, or are we creating experiences people genuinely remember? Are we willing to push past fear, comfort, and industry norms in order to stand out?

As business owners, we should constantly be evaluating:

  • What makes our business unforgettable?
  • How are we changing the conversation in our industry?
  • What would we attempt if failure wasn’t part of the equation?

Leadership & People

“Two things happen when a leader walks into the room: people straighten up a little and they smile.”

Another powerful takeaway from the book is that leadership is deeply connected to how people feel in your presence. Great leaders don’t just manage operations — they create environments where people feel seen, valued, supported, and inspired to do meaningful work.

One idea that stood out to me was the concept of “charitable assumption” — choosing to assume the best in people, even during difficult moments. In a world where stress and pressure often shape workplace culture, leading with empathy can completely transform how teams communicate and perform.

The book also reinforces that leadership isn’t about controlling every outcome. It’s about influence, energy, and helping people recognize the value they bring to the work. The strongest leaders create clarity, set the tone, and empower their teams to operate with confidence.

Implementation & Execution

Extraordinary experiences rarely happen by accident. They happen because businesses intentionally prepare for them.

One of the most practical lessons from the book is the importance of identifying recurring moments in your business and building systems that allow your team to respond consistently and creatively. Hospitality, customer care, and strong leadership shouldn’t rely solely on one person having a “good day.” They should be embedded into the culture and operations of the business.

That means asking:

  • Have we equipped our teams with the tools they need to succeed?
  • Are we being intentional about the experiences we create?
  • What processes can we improve to create more consistency and impact?

Change and transformation is not easy, but the outcomes when applied are undeniable.
